welcome to afrikanah
Afrikanah starts with the feeling in the room. From the colours, fits, crowd, music, and dancing to the full-room energy – everything comes together to create that “you just had to be there” feeling. It’s not just about playing songs, it’s about setting a mood people can step into.

Afrikanah brings together Toronto’s African and diasporic crowd in a way that feels natural, social, and welcoming. From people pulling up with friends to new faces joining the dance floor, the event is built around connection, shared culture, and being in the room together.
Afrikanah started as an idea between Summer Knocks and DJ Revy B, built from the feeling of wanting a space where African sounds, Toronto energy, and real community could all live in the same room.
The name itself speaks to identity. Afrikanah blends African, Canadian, and North American influence into one feeling, representing the way culture travels, changes, and still stays rooted.

Joy at Afrikanah comes from the connection between the music, the crowd, and the people creating the experience. From DJs to featured musicians, every element adds something different to the room. A sax player, a live moment, or an unexpected performance can shift the whole energy and make the night feel more personal, versatile, and alive.
At Afrikanah, the dance floor is the main character. The crowd is not just watching from the side, they are part of the energy. The DJs, the music, and the room are all built around getting people to move together.
